Spitzer Silo – cylinder
KONSTANDIN stands for innovation, ideas, and solutions
As a leading European manufacturer of silo vehicles, SPITZER stands for the highest quality – particularly in the transport and logistics sector, where demands are constantly rising. Cost-efficiency, durability, and the highest safety standards are the top priorities. Guided by these values, the company looks back on a history spanning more than 150 years.
SPITZER and KONSTANDIN have maintained a strong partnership since 2004 – spanning 22 years – and can take shared pride in the success story of a specific pneumatic cylinder:
Many years ago, SPITZER made customer and user-friendliness a core priority, aiming to set itself apart from the competition by introducing a pneumatic actuation system for the guardrails at the silo’s loading hatches.
Initially, standard pneumatic cylinders were used for this purpose. They performed well enough – until the first truly cold winter arrived… bringing problems along with it.
Why?
Application & Challenge
The cylinders are mounted on the exterior of the silo and are therefore constantly exposed to the elements:
everything from heat and direct sunlight to dust and dirt, as well as rain, snow, freezing temperatures, road salt, and more.
The solution
A better solution therefore had to be found – and KONSTANDIN was able to create one, combining
innovation with tremendous added value for SPITZER!
The standard cylinder was transformed into a custom assembly that naturally retains the cylinder function as its foundation while incorporating additional features:
The pivot mount and the pilot-operated check valve required for control are integrated directly into the cylinder base. This eliminated the need for separate procurement and installation – including hosing – in the future.
Furthermore, the double-acting cylinder was equipped with a single air connection at the cylinder base, allowing for further reduction and optimization of the vehicle’s pneumatic piping.
At KONSTANDIN, the cylinder head and base are machined from solid stock, ensuring the necessary strength, precision, and quality. In addition, the cylinder’s sealing technology and adjustable end-position cushioning were tailored to specific operational requirements.
The result is an innovative, high-quality assembly featuring integrated technology – at a cost that offers SPITZER an economic advantage over the standard components previously used.
Another positive and economically significant factor for the silo manufacturer is that the cylinder is available as a spare part exclusively from SPITZER, with options for repair and refurbishment even after years of service.
More than 10,000 cylinders have been supplied and installed over the past 14 years – and there is no reason to change this.
We thank you for your long-standing trust, open communication, and enduring partnership – and we look forward to many more joint projects and continued outstanding collaboration.
